How Long Does It Take To Get NCLEX Results? Make It Faster

Have you recently sat for the NCLEX exam, anxiously awaiting your results? If so, you may wonder, “How long does it take to get NCLEX results?

I understand this can be a nerve-wracking time. I will cover the average wait time for the nursing exam results and what you can do while waiting. Let’s read on!

How Long Does It Take To Get NCLEX Results?

The waiting period for your NCLEX results typically ranges from 48 hours to six weeks. The exact time frame depends on your jurisdiction’s board of nursing (BON).

Some states participate in the quick results service, allowing results to be available within 48 hours. However, these are unofficial results; your official license will be issued once the total processing time has passed.

You may wonder why it takes two days to 6 weeks. The scoring process is relatively thorough. Once you have completed the NCLEX exam, the data is transmitted to the National Council of State Boards of Nursing (NCSBN), where it is scored.

After scoring, the results are sent to your board of nursing, which will notify you of your results. It’s a comprehensive process that ensures fairness and accuracy but also takes time.

In addition, there are other factors affecting this timeline. For instance, if there are any discrepancies or issues with your exam, this may prolong the process.

The anticipation and anxiety that come with waiting for the results are intense. So, how do you know if you pass your NCLEX exam? Consider the following methods:

How To Check NCLEX Results?

Here are the primary methods to check your NCLEX results, including official and unofficial ways:

NCLEX Official Results

The first and most reliable way to check your NCLEX results is through the official results provided by your Board of Nursing (BON) or other regulatory body.

I received my official results approximately six weeks after I took the exam. However, the time frame can vary from state to state, so I recommend checking with your BON for a more accurate estimate. You will likely receive your official results by mail, but some states also offer online verification.

While this is the official and definitive result, it is not the quickest method to know whether you have passed your exam. Therefore, consider the options below if you are eager to know your NCLEX results as soon as possible.

NCLEX Unofficial Results

If you can’t wait for the official results, you may be interested in the unofficial results. The National Council of State Boards of Nursing offers Quick Results service, which allows you to view your unofficial results 48 business hours after the exam for a small fee ($7.95).

However, while this service can offer relief and a snapshot of your performance, you must remember that these are not your official final results.

Additionally, this service is not universally available. Not all states provide this service. So check its availability in your state before considering this option.

Pearson Vue Trick (PVT)

The Pearson Vue Trick, or PVT, is an uncertified method that many NCLEX test takers use to try and get their results sooner.

After finishing the exam, you try to re-register for the test. If the system prevents you from going forward, it indicates you passed. If the system allows you to pay for a new exam, it’s a sign that you may have failed.

However, I must stress that the PVT is not an official or foolproof method. It’s not 100% reliable, so consider it a hint rather than a definitive answer.

Is There Any Fee Of Getting NCLEX Results?

Typically, the fee for receiving your NCLEX results is around $7.95. However, this price can vary. Some jurisdictions may charge a higher fee, while others may offer the service for free. So, you must confirm with your specific jurisdiction to understand the exact costs involved.

The rationale behind the fee is that the processing, evaluation, and delivery of the results involve several administrative procedures that necessitate a cost.

The fee covers the cost of processing the results, maintaining the testing platform, and other administrative expenses the National Council of State Boards of Nursing incurs.

What To Do While Waiting For NCLEX Results?

Here are some things I recommend doing to keep your mind occupied while waiting for your NCLEX results:

Take A Break

After months of studying and the mental strain of the exam, you must take a well-deserved break. It is easy to become overwhelmed by the anticipation and anxiety of waiting for the results, but remember you have worked hard and deserve some rest.

You should catch up on your favorite series or spend time with your family and friends. Relax and recharge your batteries!

Distract Yourself

Find activities that you enjoy doing and get involved. It can be anything from reading a book, painting, hiking, or learning a new skill. Doing something you love can take your mind off the results and help you stay positive.

Additionally, try to maintain a positive attitude while waiting for the results. I know it’s easier said than done, but remember that worrying won’t change your test results. Instead, reflect on your hard work and journey to reach this point.

Relax and stay positive

NCLEX Results On Hold: What To Do?

First, don’t panic. It isn’t necessarily a bad thing. Stay patient. It can be frustrating, but the review process can take some time. While waiting, you can contact your board of nursing to know more about why your exam results are on hold.

It can be due to a routine review or audit of your test. The NCLEX uses a complex scoring system that adjusts the difficulty level of the questions based on your responses. It may flag your test for review if it identifies an unusual pattern in your answers.

Besides, your test may experience an audit, part of the normal testing process. It doesn’t mean you did anything wrong or have an exam issue.

If you are asked about any aspect of your testing process, answer truthfully. The board of nursing ensures that all nurses are competent and ethical, and they appreciate your honesty.
